Gaza’s Children: A UNICEF Report Describes Them as ‘Born Into Hell'
A UNICEF report published on January 19, 2024, described the situation of newborn babies in Gaza as 'Born into Hell,' according to Communication Specialist Tess Ingram. Several cases of abortion, severe infections, and miserable incubation conditions have been reported in the southern half of Gaza. This is in addition to the northern half, where no food, medication, or healthcare is accessible due to Israeli prevention, and no UN official can reach or report on the situation. "135,000 children under two are at risk of severe malnutrition," according to the report.
Another UNICEF report estimated the total number of internally displaced individuals at about 1.7 million people, half of whom are children. These children face excruciating conditions, lacking food, water, shelter, and safety. At least 17,000 children are left unaccompanied due to the loss of their families or being separated from them.
