Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. It was later discovered that the footage is old and does not depict a gathering of a Jewish community opposed to Israel in the context of the ongoing war on Gaza.

The circulated scenes date back to a gathering of around 25,000 members of the Orthodox Jewish community in the city of Manhattan, New York, in June 2013. They were protesting against the compulsory conscription law for students of religious schools in Israel.

The protests also highlighted the issue of imprisoning students of Torah schools "for the crime of studying the Torah." Young men belonging to the Elisheba sect were seen dressed in orange attire and detained inside a mobile iron cell as part of the demonstration.

Jewish Protests in the United States Against the Israeli War on Gaza

In this context, numerous protests led by anti-Israel Jewish groups have emerged, denouncing the Israeli war on Gaza and calling for an immediate ceasefire since October 7 of the previous year.

One of the prominent Jewish organizations leading the movement in the United States against the Israeli war on Gaza is the left-wing organization "Jewish Voice for Peace." In an interview with Anadolu Agency published on March 10 of this year, they stated that the global public reactions have successfully influenced American policy towards Israel. They cited President Joe Biden's recent demand from Tel Aviv for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as an example of this impact.

Esther Farmer, one of the leaders of the Jewish organization, stated that since October 7, 2023, they have sent numerous messages to politicians and officials in various countries, urging an end to the recent war in Gaza. She noted that Israel "has lost the war of international relations and has become a globally isolated country."
