Misbar investigated the circulating image and found the claim to be misleading.
Misbar's team found that the image dates back to 2019 and depicts the explosion of an unidentified device in Syria.
Old Image Shows Deployment of Bomb in Syria
By conducting a reverse search of the image, Misbar discovered that the image originates from a December, 2019 video, which was uploaded on YouTube. The video was described as depicting an explosion involving an "ODAB 500P" device in Syria.
At the time, the Russian media organization Sputnik also released an article discussing the video stating that the image captured a massive explosion and the resulting shockwave in a location within Syria. The topic was discussed among experts, who were deliberating over the type of bomb that could have resulted in such devastation.
Casualties Reported in Alleged Ukrainian Attack on Belgorod Region, Russia
The governor of Russia's Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced on his Telegram channel that two individuals lost their lives and two others sustained injuries due to an attack allegedly carried out by Ukraine on Friday. Gladkov stated that the region was subjected to shelling from Ukraine. However, independent verification of these claims was not feasible.
Incursions and Aerial Attacks Escalate Tensions Between Russia and Ukraine
The Freedom of Russia Legion (FRL) and Siberian Battalion (SB) have released videos purportedly depicting their fighters in Russia's Belgorod and Kursk regions, with claims of controlling two villages by "liberation forces" supported by an exiled Russian politician. Russia's defense ministry countered, asserting thwarted breakthrough attempts and reporting over 234 Ukrainian troop casualties and the destruction of multiple tanks. According to Vyacheslav Gladkov, the regional governor of Belgorod, one member of Russia's territorial defense forces was killed, and 10 civilians were injured.
Ukraine's military denied involvement in Tuesday's cross-border raids, labeling the paramilitary groups as "independent organizations'' of Russian nationals. Meanwhile, Russia accuses Ukraine of launching 25 drones targeting Russian locations, although the attack was reportedly unsuccessful. Concurrently, videos have surfaced showing apparent fires at several Russian oil facilities.
According to Russian state-run news agencies citing the defense ministry, an Il-76 military transport plane crashed shortly after takeoff in the Ivanovo region, located just east of Moscow. The aircraft was carrying eight crew members and seven passengers. The ministry attributed the crash to an engine fire but did not provide details on survivors. Videos have surfaced allegedly depicting the plane engulfed in flames while circling in the sky, followed by plumes of black smoke emerging from the crash site.
Meanwhile, in the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih, at least three individuals were killed and 38 others injured when a Russian missile struck two apartment buildings on Tuesday night, as reported by the minister of internal affairs, Ihor Klymenko. He mentioned that children were among the victims and cautioned that the death toll might rise as the search and rescue operation continues.
