Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.

Misbar's team found that the video was recorded on March 2, 2023, and depicts the destruction of a Russian BTR-82A vehicle close to Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.

As reported by an article from the Ukrainian Military Center News detailing the incident, both the Russian BTR-82a armored personnel carrier (APC) and the infantry accompanying it were eliminated. The brigade is engaged in active defense within the Avdiivka sector, countering ongoing offensive maneuvers by the Russian Armed Forces.

Israeli Forces Block Hundreds of Worshipers from Al-Aqsa Mosque During Ramadan Friday Prayers

According to The Palestinian news agency Wafa, Israeli occupation forces obstructed hundreds of worshipers from reaching the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem to participate in the second Friday prayer of Ramadan. Eyewitnesses revealed that Israeli forces escalated their military presence around checkpoints in Qalandia, north of Jerusalem, Al-Zaytouna to the east, and Bethlehem to the south. Numerous worshipers were turned away, as Israeli forces cited a lack of required entry permits.

Concurrently, thousands of Israeli police officers were deployed by the occupation forces in the alleys of Jerusalem's Old City and at the entrances to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Both locations have been under stringent siege for nearly half a year.

Impending Famine Threatens the Gaza Strip

The latest analysis from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) released on 18 March 2024, both North Gaza and Gaza Governorates are categorized in IPC Phase 5 (Famine), with approximately 70% (around 210,000 people) of the population facing IPC Phase 5 (Catastrophe). Ongoing conflict and severely restricted access to humanitarian aid and commercial transport to the northern governorates are expected to exacerbate vulnerabilities, leading to critically limited food availability, access, and utilization, along with constrained access to healthcare, water, and sanitation. The thresholds for household acute food insecurity and acute malnutrition have already been surpassed, with a concerning upward trend in cases of acute malnutrition and non-trauma mortality.

The southern governorates of Deir al-Balah, Khan Younis, and Rafah are classified in IPC Phase 4 (Emergency). However, they face the risk of famine through July 2024 under the worst-case scenario. The entire population of the Gaza Strip (2.23 million) is grappling with acute food insecurity. In the most probable scenario from mid-March to mid-July, assuming an escalation of conflict, including a ground offensive in Rafah, half of Gaza's population (1.11 million people) is expected to endure catastrophic conditions (IPC Phase 5), marking a stark increase of 530,000 individuals (92%) compared to previous assessments.

The IPC acute food insecurity analysis carried out in December 2023 raised concerns about the looming risk of famine by the end of May 2024 if immediate cessation of hostilities and sustained access for vital supplies and services were not secured. Unfortunately, the conditions necessary to avert famine have not materialized, and recent evidence indicates that famine is imminent in the northern governorates, anticipated between mid-March and May 2024.
