Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
Misbar's team found that the video dates back to September 2022 and depicts a train trembling as a result of an earthquake in Hualien, Taiwan.
According to a Reuters news report from September 18, 2022, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the sparsely populated southeastern region of Taiwan on Sunday. The island's meteorological bureau reported that the quake caused train carriages to derail, led to the collapse of a convenience store, and left hundreds stranded on mountain roads.
A Deadly 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Eastern Coast of Taiwan
Taiwan experienced its most powerful earthquake in 25 years when a 7.4 magnitude tremor struck the island's eastern coast. The quake caused buildings to collapse, claimed the lives of at least four individuals, and prompted tsunami warnings across the region, which were later lifted. The tsunami alerts led to the temporary suspension of flights, which subsequently resumed. According to the National Fire Agency (NFA), approximately 77 people remain trapped across Taiwan following the earthquake, with ongoing rescue efforts.
Taiwan Earthquake: 9 Dead, Over 900 Injured as Rescues Intensify
While authorities have not provided details on the condition of those trapped, they confirmed that rescue operations are in progress. The NFA reported that the quake has resulted in nine fatalities and over 700 injuries, with 132 of the injured located in Hualien County, near the quake's epicenter. Rescue teams are tirelessly working to free dozens of individuals who are trapped following the earthquake, which also triggered landslides and caused significant structural damage. As of now, the death toll stands at nine, with over 900 others injured and more than 100 buildings damaged.
