Recently, accounts and pages on social media platform X have circulated a photo and a video claiming to depict the solar eclipse of April 8, 2024.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and image and found the claim to be misleading.
Misbar's team found that the video dates back to July 2019. This total solar eclipse was visible from small parts of Chile and Argentina just before sunset.
The team also found that the image was published on Shutterstock in January 2017. Similar images were also available on the website, all published in 2017.

The total solar eclipse that traversed Mexico, the United States, and Canada has completed its journey over continental North America.
Mazatlan, located on Mexico's Pacific coast, experienced totality earlier on Monday, marking the start of the eclipse’s path. Subsequently, the eclipse brought darkness to Texas, where spectators enjoyed remarkable views despite cloudy conditions. Cities and towns across the Midwestern U.S., including Indianapolis and Cleveland, were next to witness this awe-inspiring celestial event.
NASA Glenn Research Center Eclipse Event
A significant gathering occurred at the NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, the only NASA facility within the eclipse's path of totality. Attendees included NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves, NASA astronaut Steve Bowen, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Josh Dobbs, and even Snoopy, all wearing eclipse glasses for the occasion.
