Emerging story
Recently, accounts and pages on the social media site X have been circulating a video that purportedly shows scenes from Tel Aviv of Israeli settlers fleeing in panic to shelters during the latest Iranian attack using drones and missiles.
Misbarās Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The video is outdated and does not show settlers fleeing during the recent Iranian attack on Israel, which involved hundreds of drones and missiles.
Escalator Collapse in Romeās Metro
The circulating video dates back to an incident from October 2018, during a Champions League match in Rome.
At that time, Italian police reported that an accident severely injured 20 Russian fans, necessitating surgical intervention. Most were supporters of CSKA Moscow. An escalator at a subway station malfunctioned and partially collapsed after it was overloaded by a large number of jumping Russian fans.
Iran Launches Its First Direct Attack on Israel
The claim circulated just as the Iranian Revolutionary Guard launched hundreds of drones and missiles toward Israel late Saturday evening, with some entering Israeli airspace by Sunday morning. This attack marks the first direct assault Iran has conducted against Israel.
Sirens sounded throughout Israel, and media outlets reported on the interception of explosive drones over the occupied territories. Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli army, stated that Iran launched dozens of surface-to-surface missiles at Israel, some of which were intercepted outside Israeli borders.
Iran Responds to the Targeting of Its Consulate in Damascus
These developments came days after Iran vowed to retaliate against an airstrike, which it accuses Israel of orchestrating, that targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1.
The airstrike killed two commanders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haj Rahimi, as well as five Iranian military advisors.
Iranian state television reported that "half of the missiles hit their targets," while Fars News Agency quoted a well-informed military source saying, "The operations to punish Israel are ongoing and not yet concluded," noting that all targets of the Iranian missile and drone attacks were military.
