Emerging story
Recently, various social media accounts and pages have circulated a video that purportedly shows the military equipment that Iran used in its attack on Israel last Saturday.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading. The video in question is old and does not depict the military equipment utilized in the recent Iranian attack against Israel.
Two Underground Revolutionary Guard Bases
The video in question dates back to March 2022 and showcases footage released by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, unveiling underground bases designed for missiles and drones. These bases are constructed within tunnels inside mountains and feature advanced surface-to-surface missile systems and drones capable of evading radar networks and enemy air defense systems.
This unveiling followed the inauguration of missile and drone bases established by the Revolutionary Guard "in the heart of the high mountains" at a ceremony attended by the Chief Commander of the Revolutionary Guard, Brigadier General Hossein Salami. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated that this was the first instance of revealing such a military base specifically designed for drones.
Iran Launches an Attack on Israel
The allegation arises in the aftermath of Iran's long-anticipated attack on Israel, which occurred on Saturday evening. This attack was purportedly in retaliation for the bombing of its consulate in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on April 1. Reports indicate that Iran launched dozens of drones and missiles inside Israel.
Israeli media outlets have confirmed that dozens of drones were indeed launched from Iran towards Israel. It has been noted that these drones require between 6 to 9 hours to reach their intended targets within Israel. Furthermore, it is noted that these drones are susceptible to interception along the way.
Israeli Alert Heightens Post Iranian Attack
Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, called for an urgent Security Council meeting to condemn the Iranian attack and designate the IRGC as a "terrorist organization." He emphasized that "the Iranian poses a grave threat to international peace and security."
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, "Our defense systems are deployed; and we are prepared for any scenarios, both in defense and attack." He further added, "We have determined a clear principle: Whoever harms us, we will harm them. We will defend ourselves against any threat."
