Outdated Image From Syria Shared As Stained Cookies In Gaza During Eid Al-Fitr

Misbar investigated the viral claim and found it to be misleading.

Through reverse image search, Misbar’s team found that the image has no relation to the assaults committed by Israel on the first day of Eid al-Fitr 2024. In fact, it depicts a massacre that happened in January in Daret Azza, Syria. The stained tiny balls in the image are falafel, not cookies as alleged.

Assad Forces Targeted The City Of Darat Azza On January 1

Contrary to the claim, the viral image depicts Darat Azza city, in Syria. The Syrian Emergency Task Force organization posted the image on Instagram, stating that it depicts Darat Azza on the morning of January 1 after being targeted by Assad forces and Russia.

Some Syrian activists shared the news and noted that the image depicts falafel and hummus stained with the blood of martyrs from Darat Azza on January 1.

On New Year’s Day, the Syrian regime targeted the rebel-held town of Darat Azza and the villages of Kabashin and Burj Heidar in the west of Aleppo province with artillery and rocket shelling. Six civilians were killed and 11 were injured, including two children, an infant, and two women.

The Syrian Civil Defence, also known as the White Helmets, reported that the shelling in the city of Darat Azza targeted an electricity service facility, a bakery, a mosque, a market, and civilian homes.

Israeli Massacres Continues During Eid Al-Fitr

While all Muslims around the world celebrated Eid al-Fitr, which comes after 30 days of fasting, Israel continued its brutal bombardment of the Gaza Strip. On April 10, the first day of Eid and the 187th of the war on Gaza, The Palestinian Health Ministry In Gaza reported that 122 killed and 56 injured were delivered to the hospitals, while thousands were still under the debris or in destroyed streets that civil defense workers can not reach to them.

More than half of the population in the Gaza Strip spent the Eid displaced from their homes while living in tents or the uninhabitable debris of their destroyed homes, making enjoying the Eid somewhat impossible. Over and above, the famine in the north of the Strip makes it even harder to enjoy Eid, especially for children who grew weaker and sluggish due to the lack of food.
