Israeli Attacks on the Gaza Strip in 2014

On July 7, 2014, Israel launched a military operation on the Gaza Strip dubbed “Operation Protective Edge,” to which the Palestinian resistance factions responded with a counter-operation known as the “Battle of the Withered Grain.”

The Israeli onslaught lasted 51 days, during which the occupation army conducted over 60,000 raids in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, the Al-Qassam Brigades fired over 8,000 missiles, some of which targeted the cities of Haifa, Tel Aviv, and Jerusalem for the first time, leading to flight suspension at Tel Aviv Airport.

The 2014 aggression claimed the lives of 2,322 Palestinians and left 11,000 others injured. Israel committed massacres against 144 families, with at least three members martyred in each. Meanwhile, 68 Israeli soldiers and 4 civilians, in addition to one foreign worker, were killed. Additionally, 2,522 Israelis were injured, including 740 soldiers.

The message from the group stated: “In response to the crimes of the Zionist entity, the Cyber Avengers group repeatedly targeted electricity distribution infrastructure from the north to the south of the occupied Palestinian territories.”

Iran Launches an Attack on Israel

Iran launched a wide-ranging missile and drone attack on Israel from Saturday night to Sunday, in a retaliatory move following an airstrike on April 1 that targeted its consulate in Damascus, resulting in the death of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps leaders. Iranian Army Commander Abdul Rahim Mousavi declared that if Israel retaliated, Iran would commence the second phase of attacks.

Israeli Channel 12 reported that Iran launched approximately 100 drones and cruise missiles at Israeli targets on Saturday. It noted that some of these were intercepted, while others landed over Syria or Jordan.

Impact of Iranian Missiles on Israel

Iranian television reported that “half of the missiles have hit their targets so far,” while the Iranian news agency “Fars” quoted an informed military source as saying that “the retaliatory operations against Israel have not ended yet and are ongoing,” indicating that all targets of the Iranian missile and drone attacks were military. Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said that Iranian missiles resulted in only minor material damage.

The official Iranian news agency IRNA reported that the most important Israeli airbase in the Negev was targeted in a “successful attack” using Iranian “Khaybar” missiles. The report mentioned that the base was also involved in the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier this month.
