Amid recent protests on U.S. university campuses, social media users circulated a video clip purporting to show pro-Palestine demonstrators at George Washington University replacing the American flag with the Hamas flag.
An X user shared the video along with the caption, "This MUST be STOPPED! BREAKING. At George Washington University. The U.S. flag has just been removed from the main GWU flagpole. The Palestinian Hamas flag now flies in its place."

This Is the Palestinian Flag, Not the Hamas One
Contrary to social media users’ claim, the video in question features pro-Palestine protesters raising the Palestinian flag at George Washington University.
The video was shot inside the George Washington University campus. The original video was uploaded to YouTube on May 3, under the caption,“George Washington University in DC has Fallen US flag removed an Palestinian flag Posted #america.”
There is a stark difference between the Palestinian flag and the Islamic Resistance Movement.
The design of the Hamas movement flag consists of a green background, and in the middle, it features the writing of the Shahada, an Islamic statement of faith, in a white calligraphic script: "There is no god but Allah" and "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah."
Furthermore, the design of the Palestinian flag consists of a horizontal tricolour of black, white, and green; with a red triangle based at the hoist charged with the coat of arms above two crossed white swords in the upper hoist corner.
George Washington Statue Draped in Palestinian Flag on DC Campus
Pro-Palestine protesters at the George Washington University campus in Washington, D.C., have draped the George Washington statue with a Palestinian flag. In addition, a black and white scarf has been wrapped around the statue's neck.
Stickers bearing messages such as "End the Genocide Free Palestine," "The Students United Will Never Be Divided," and "Anti-Fascist Action" can be seen placed around the bronze body of the statue. A pink sticker with the words "Rise Love Resist" covers Washington's face. Furthermore, the phrase "Genocidal Warmongering University" has been painted across the granite base of the statue and a portion of its plaque.
The U.S. university students are protesting against the Israeli barbaric aggression on the Gaza Strip. According to the New York Times, over 2,300 pro-Palestine individuals have been arrested or detained on campuses across the U.S.
