The Claim

The US destroyer 'Mason' was precisely hit in the Red Sea. For the first time, the military spokesperson of the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier Yahya Saree, announced.

Emerging story

Recently, social media users have circulated a video allegedly showing the moment the Yemeni Armed Forces struck the U.S. destroyer 'Mason' in the Red Sea. They also claimed that Brigadier Yahya Saree, the military spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, confirmed the direct hit, indicating a shift from mere warnings to active targeting.

A 2013 Video of Norway’s New Naval Strike Missile

Contrary to social media users’ claim, the footage is older than claimed.

The video features the Norwegian Armed Forces training in 2013. The original footage was first uploaded to YouTube in June 2013, showing the Norwegian Armed Forces demolishing a Norwegian warship as part of a test for their Naval Strike Missile (NSM).

The Norwegian Forces Blew Up a Warship in a Missile Test

On June 5, the Norwegian Armed Forces shared a video on their official Facebook page, revealing the first-ever launch of the Naval Strike Missile (NSM) with a live warhead from a naval vessel. The missile targeted the decommissioned frigate 'KNM Trondheim' within the missile range of Andøya, an island in Norway.

They noted that these missiles introduce entirely new capabilities for the armed forces and are now deployed on the navy’s new Skjold-class and Nansen-class ships.

Houthis Claim U.S. Warships Targeting, U.S. Denies

The Houthis claimed on Wednesday that they targeted a vessel named "Destiny" in the Red Sea as part of a series of attacks, which they say are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. However, a U.S. official told Reuters on Thursday that there was no evidence of an attack on the Destiny in recent days, stating that the vessel and crew are safe with no issues.

During a televised speech, the Houthis' military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, stated that they targeted the USS Mason in the Red Sea with several naval missiles. Saree also mentioned targeting the Destiny because it was allegedly en route to the Israeli port of Eilat on April 20. However, Saree did not specify the dates when the two ships were targeted.

The continuous Houthi actions in the Red Sea have disrupted global shipping, prompting firms to reroute for longer and more expensive journeys around Southern Africa.
