Recently, social media users widely circulated a video clip purporting to feature an Arab woman burning the French flag in France or Europe. Numerous commentators also believed the video was filmed in France or Europe.
The video has garnered millions of views from multiple social media publishers and sparked an outcry online.
An X user published the video, along with the caption, Muslim woman burns the French flag. Why do they keep going to Europe if they hate it so much? Is mass deportation the right approach for dealing with the extremists?
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral footage and found the claim to be misleading.
Running a reverse image search on the video, Misbar’s team found the footage to be outdated and not connected to any incidents in France or Europe.
Outdated Video of Burning the French Flag in Morocco
Contrary to social media users' viral claim, the video was not shot in any European country. The video shows a female Arab demonstrator burning the French flag in front of the French consulate in Tangier, Morocco.
TanjaNews TV uploaded the original video to YouTube on October 25, 2023.
The same YouTube channel also uploaded another long video on October 24, 2023, showing Moroccans organizing a demonstration in front of the French Consulate in Tangiers to protest France's support for Israel during the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
In the second video, the same female protester who burned the French flag in the viral clip is seen participating in a pro-Palestine protest. Palestinian flags can be seen waving in the background.
Furthermore, Misbar’s team compared the symbols on the policemen’s uniforms at the protest and found them to be identical to the Moroccan police insignia.
Thousands of Moroccan Protesters Marched in Solidarity with Gaza
Thousands marched on Sunday in Mohammedia, western Morocco, to show solidarity with Gaza, condemning the genocide against its residents and praising Palestinian resilience.
Organized by the Moroccan Front in Support of Palestine and Against Normalization, which includes political, union, and human rights groups, protesters demanded civilian protection in Gaza and called for aid delivery.
Participants denounced the Israeli army’s massacre at Al-Nuseirat camp in Gaza and other violent acts against Palestinians. Israeli forces launched heavy artillery and air strikes on the refugee camp, killing at least 274 people and injuring nearly 700, according to local health authorities, drawing widespread condemnation.
The protest moved through major streets in Mohammedia before gathering in the city center.
Recent Updates from the Barbaric Israeli War on Gaza
Since October 7, at least 37,598 people have been killed and 86,032 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza.
Israeli aircraft bombed a U.N. aid distribution center in Gaza City as desperate Palestinians lined up for food and water, resulting in more than a dozen martyrs and injuries, including children.
Matthew Hollingworth, the country director of the World Food Programme, is reflecting on his time in Gaza as he prepares to leave the besieged coastal enclave.
“What we still see today is obviously just a level of destruction and dispossession that is far greater than I’ve probably ever seen anywhere else in the world in any other war,” he said in a post on X.
