Emerging story
Recently, social media users have been circulating a video claiming to show bot farms work from China, Iran, Russia, and Pakistan to conduct propaganda for Hamas in leading social networks.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the video making the rounds had no link to the ongoing war on Gaza.
The Video Depicts A Digital Marketing Company Based in Vietnam
Contrary to social media users’ claim, the 12-second video featuring multiple phones streaming online is originally from a digital social media marketing company called “MINSoftware” based in Vietnam.
Notably, the name of the digital company “MINSoftware '' and its formal Logo can be seen printed on the employee's t-shirt in the viral video, and after conducting a Keyword Search, Misbar’s team discovered that it is the formal outfit of the company.
The company provides a technological ecosystem software that manages social media accounts and increases performance for celebrities, enterprises or anyone for that matter.
Hence, there is no evidence that the digital marketing company “MINSoftware” which was alleged to be working from China, Iran, Russia and Pakistan is providing any digital support to conduct propaganda supporting Hamas, as suggested online.
Israel Used Bots and AI To Twist Narratives
OpenAI and Meta both disrupted covert influence operations linked to the same organization in Israel, the companies disclosed in independent transparency reports in May.
The two technological platforms announced that a political business intelligence firm based in Tel Aviv had been using their products nefariously to manipulate various political conversations online.
OpenAI, the generative artificial intelligence company behind ChatGPT, revealed in a report that it banned a network of accounts, which it described as a “for-hire Israeli threat actor" posting anti-Hamas and pro-Israel content in addition to other political content.
Meanwhile, Meta confirmed that it had also removed 510 Facebook accounts, 11 pages and one group, as well as 32 Instagram accounts, linked to the same operation.
Meta announced that it has banned the Israeli firm from its platforms and that it issued a cease-and-desist letter “demanding that they immediately stop activity that violates Meta’s policies.”
Amid the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza, pro-Israeli AI-operated Accounts have widely promoted misinformation and fake narratives on various platforms, which Misbar’s team debunked and verified their authenticity.
Israel Orders New Evacuations in Khan Younis
Palestinian civilians have been forced to leave Khan Younis in Gaza once again, in response to Israeli military evacuation orders.
The U.N. estimates that 250,000 people in eastern parts of the city are affected by the orders issued on Monday, which suggest Israeli forces are set to re-enter after pulling its forces back from Khan Younis in April.
Within a day of Israel ordering parts of the city to evacuate, an airstrike attack that killed at least nine people in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis was launched.
Palestinian health officials said Tuesday that the overnight strike hit a home near the European Hospital, which led to the evacuation of patients and staff.
