Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading, as the video clip is old and does not show recent explosions and fires engulfing the Israeli Meron base.

Fire in Ashdod in May 2021

The video was posted on the Israeli army's account on X and in Israeli media on May 15, 2021, claiming it depicted damage in Ashdod caused by rockets fired from Gaza towards southern Israel at that time.

In retaliation for this Israeli airstrike, an Israeli airstrike targeted a three-story building in Gaza City, resulting in the deaths of eight children and two women from a Palestinian family during the Israeli offensive on Gaza in May 2021.

In response to the Israeli attack, Palestinian resistance forces launched a heavy barrage of rockets towards Israel, prompting sirens to sound in Tel Aviv and other cities.

Israeli sources stated that the video was released after a rocket struck Ashdod's port and hit a fuel tank, causing a massive explosion.

Hezbollah Targets the Israeli Meron Base

Last June, Hezbollah broadcast footage claiming to target the Israeli Meron base in the Galilee. Hezbollah announced it had successfully struck the base's operations and air operations control unit, confirming damage and destruction of part of the facility's equipment and radars.

The Confrontations Between Hezbollah and Israel Are Escalating

The claim circulated as confrontations escalated on the southern Lebanon front between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, coinciding with the occupation's recent acknowledgment of operational plans for a broad attack on Lebanon.

The Israeli army stated that it "monitored two suspicious aerial targets launched from Lebanese territory, which landed in an open area in the Beit Hillel region without causing injuries."

Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced it "launched an airstrike using a squadron of drones targeting the artillery depot of Battalion 403, part of the 91st Brigade in Beit Hillel, which had attacked our villages and people. The strike hit its targets accurately, causing fires."

Hezbollah-affiliated media reported that Israeli warplanes targeted a house in the town of Kfar Kila in southern Lebanon with two rockets.
