Emerging story
Recently, social media users have been circulating a photo claiming to show former U.S. President Donald Trump at the Republican Party conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, just two days after an assassination attempt. Publishers of the photo assert that Trump's ear appears normal in the picture, raising doubts about reports of a gunshot.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading, as the photo is from September 17, 2022, not from Donald Trump's appearance at the recent Republican Party conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 15 following the assassination attempt.
The circulated photo shows Donald Trump listening to Ohio Senator J.D. Vance's speech during an event in Youngstown, Ohio. It was taken by photographer Galen Moore for Reuters.
J.D. Vance had won the primary elections to secure the Republican Party's nomination for the Ohio Senate elections, competing against Democratic candidate Tim Ryan.
During his speech, Vance discussed the campaign's challenges and the limited television advertisements. However, Vance successfully secured the Republican Party's nomination after receiving support from Donald Trump.
Trump’s Assassination Attempt
The claim circulated after former U.S. President and current presidential candidate Donald Trump was targeted in an assassination attempt on Saturday, July 13, at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Trump was shot, resulting in an injury to his right ear. The attack resulted in the death of one attendee and injuries to two others.
Trump’s First Appearance Post-Assassination Attempt
Two days after surviving an assassination attempt, former U.S. President Donald Trump participated in the Republican Party conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He appeared with a white bandage covering his ear.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump selected Senator J.D. Vance, a member of the Senate from Ohio, to be his running mate for the Vice Presidential position if he wins the upcoming U.S. presidential election scheduled for November 5.
