Emerging story

Recently, social media users have been circulating an image claiming it shows explosions in Tel Aviv. Many posts have gone viral on the social platform X in Turkish and Arabic languages.

An account called 'NE KADAR OLDU' shared the image on the X platform with the caption "Tel Aviv is burning." Another account called 'Servet Beki' also shared the image and commented, "Israel is burning, becoming ashes, to the screams of the Gaza children you burned."

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating image and found the claim to be misleading.

Explosions at Israeli Sites in the Golan From February 2024

After investigating the photo through a reverse image search, it was found that the photo depicts a fire following Hezbollah’s rocket attacks on the Golan region, targeting Israeli soldiers. Hezbollah also fired missiles at the Meron air control base on Mount Meron in the Upper Galilee region on the night of February 22, 2024.

The photo was also circulated on social media in February. On February 23, an account named 'Hadi,' based in Mount Galilee, shared the image on X with the caption: “In response to the Israeli bombing of Lebanese civilians, Hezbollah is unprecedentedly bombing and destroying Israeli settlements in the occupied Golan Heights. Lebanon has every right to defend itself.”

On February 27, Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at an Israeli military facility in Galilee. According to the Israeli Forces, 35 rockets were launched during the attack, causing sirens to sound in communities near Mount Meron, including Zivon, Sassa, Safsufa, and Dovev.

Israeli-Hezbollah Conflict

The photo is being circulated again due to a recent incident on July 27, when a rocket strike in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights killed 12 children and young adults who were playing football. The Israeli forces have accused Hezbollah of being responsible, while Mohamad Afif, Hezbollah's spokesman, has denied responsibility for the strike.

Israeli-Hezbollah Conflict

The Israeli forces announced on Sunday morning that they had carried out air strikes against seven Hezbollah targets “deep inside Lebanese territory.”

The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has escalated since last October's Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. The fighting intensified when the militant group launched rockets at Israeli positions the day after the Hamas attack, in a show of solidarity with Palestinians. These confrontations are the most intense since the two sides engaged in a full-scale war in 2006.
