Emerging story
Recently, a video has gone viral on social media platforms Facebook and X, purporting to show Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ Aerospace Force (IRGC-AF), saying, 'Be ready to let the Zionists know what the punishment is for spilling the blood of a guest in our house.' This was allegedly in response to the Israeli occupation forces' assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’s political wing.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The video is old and does not show the commander of the IRGC-AF threatening Israel after the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas’s political wing, on Wednesday, July 31. No official statement has been made by him until now.
Iran Launches 300 Drones Toward the Occupied Palestinian Territories
The video, from July 1, features Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the IRGC Aerospace Force, at a special conference held at the National Oasis of the Aerospace Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. This event welcomed families of victims affected by Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip since October 7.
In his address to the families, Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh declared, 'We are committed to supporting you fully and will do everything in our power to stand by our beloved Palestinians.' He further asserted, 'The Islamic Republic of Iran will make every effort to back the resistance fighters in Palestine, Lebanon, and beyond,' according to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA).
In the video, the IRGC Aerospace Force commander states, 'With 45 years of military expertise, I am well-versed in military affairs. I firmly believe that the recent actions taken during "Operation Truthful Promise," coupled with the resistance from the Palestinian people, will ultimately lead to the victory of the Palestinian nation.'
He added, 'In Operation Truthful Promise, we launched 300 missiles, and we hope to have the opportunity to carry out "Operation Truthful Promise II." However, I still don’t know how many missiles we will be using this time.'
Israel Takes Responsibility for Ismail Haniyeh’s Assassination in Tehran
The video began circulating after the announcement of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas's political wing, in Tehran. The incident occurred at 2:00 AM on Wednesday, July 31, at his residence in the Iranian capital. Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran's new president, Masoud Pezeshkian.
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, issued a stern warning of retaliation for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh. He stated, 'The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime has invited severe punishment upon itself with this act. We see it as our duty to seek revenge for his martyrdom within the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran.'
In response, Iran's newly elected president, Masoud Pezeshkian, declared after the news of Ismail Haniyeh's assassination on Iranian soil, 'The Islamic Republic of Iran will fiercely defend its territorial integrity, honor, dignity, and pride, and will ensure the terrorist occupiers regret their cowardly act.' He added, 'Iran mourns alongside its ally in both triumphs and tribulations, the leader of the Palestinian resistance and martyr of Jerusalem, Ismail Haniyeh,' as reported by the Iranian news agency IRNA.
