Against the backdrop of the recent Israel-Iran tensions, social media users widely alleged that Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the top commander of the IRGC's Aerospace Force, was assassinated in an Israeli attack near Damascus, Syria.

An X user shared photos of the commander, along with the caption, "Top IRGC commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh assassinated in Syria's Damascus. Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Forces, has been assassinated in an attack near the Syrian capital of Damascus."

Contrary to social media users’ viral claim, top IRGC commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh was not killed by Israel in Syria recently.

In addition, IRGC commander Amir Ali Hajizadeh attended Ismail Haniyeh’s funeral in Iran on August 1, 2024. The commander was seen via IRIB News Agency’s live TV broadcast.

Following Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's assassination in Iran on July 31, 2024, Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force (IRGC-AF), has issued a stern warning that Israel will face severe consequences for the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the Hamas political bureau. He stated, "Be ready to make the Zionists understand what the punishment awaits for spilling the blood of a guest in our home.

Hajizadeh also emphasized that they are still mourning the martyrdom of Major General Qasem Soleimani in exile.

"The terrorist act is under investigation, and the results will be announced soon," stated the Revolutionary Guards.

On July 1, Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, the Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force, stated to the Iranian media IRNA that Iran supports resistance fighters in Palestine until the end of the war. The statement reads, “The Islamic Republic of Iran will spare no effort to support the resistance fighters in Palestine, Lebanon and other region.”

Assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Head Ismail Haniyeh

The assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh occurred early Wednesday morning in Tehran, Iran.

Hamas spokesperson and deputy head Khalil Al-Hayya stated in a Tehran news conference that Haniyeh was directly hit by a rocket in his room, vowing that Israel would "pay the price" for this "heinous crime." 

Earlier, Iranian state media IRNA reported that an airborne guided projectile targeted the building at around 2 a.m. local time. Investigations are ongoing to determine the details of the operation and the origin of the projectile.

Funeral prayers were held at Qatar’s Imam Muhammed bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque, the largest in the country. Following the prayers, Haniyeh's body, draped in the Palestinian flag, was taken in a coffin for burial at a cemetery in Lusail, a city north of Doha.

Iran Vows Revenge for Haniyeh’s Assassination

Iran has warned "harsh punishment" for Israel, accusing it of assassinating Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran. Israel has not directly commented on the strike, but Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu mentioned that Israel had delivered "crushing blows" to its enemies recently, including the killing of a senior Hezbollah commander in Lebanon hours before the Tehran strike.

According to Reuters, top Iranian officials were set to meet with representatives from Iran's regional allies in Lebanon, Iraq, and Yemen on Thursday to discuss potential retaliation against Israel.

This comes amid heightened tensions and the risk of a broader conflict. Representatives from Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Yemen's Houthi movement, Hezbollah, and Iraqi resistance groups were set to attend the meeting in Tehran, according to sources.
