Emerging story
Recently, social media users have been circulating a video claiming to show the city of Tel Aviv engulfed in flames following an assault by Hezbollah, which reportedly fired numerous Katyusha rockets at Israel.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
Video of Rocket Attack on Kiryat Shmona, November 2023
Misbar's team found that the video in question is not recent; it originates from November 2023 and shows a large fire that broke out in the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona following a missile attack. The Hamas-affiliated Izz Al-Din Al-Qassam Brigades, based in Lebanon, launched 12 rockets across the border, targeting the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona.
According to Israel's Magen David Adom emergency medical service, the rocket attacks resulted in injuries to two individuals. The Lebanese branch of Hamas claimed responsibility for firing the rockets as a retaliatory act against what they described as the “occupation massacres against our people in Gaza.”
Hezbollah Fires Dozens of Rockets at Israel in Retaliation for Attacks
The claim began circulating after Hezbollah announced late Saturday that it had launched dozens of Katyusha rockets at Israel. This marked the group's latest series of attacks, which it purportedly carried out in support of the Palestinian people.
The Iran-backed group stated that this recent assault targeted Beit Hillel in northern Israel as a direct response to Israeli strikes on Kfar Kela and Deir Siriane in Lebanon, which it alleged resulted in civilian injuries.
Hezbollah emphasized that the attacks were retaliation against what it described as the enemy’s aggression, specifically mentioning the southern villages affected. Israeli sources indicated that approximately 30 rockets were fired from Lebanon toward the Galilee region. According to the Times of Israel, the Iron Dome air defense system intercepted most of them; however, one rocket struck Beit Hillel while others landed in open areas. In response, the Israeli Air Force targeted the rocket launchers in Marjayoun, Lebanon, and other Hezbollah infrastructure, while the Israeli military shelled the Adaysseh area with artillery.
Fatal Israeli Strikes on Gaza Schools: Many Killed, Majority Are Children
At least 30 individuals have been killed and numerous others injured due to Israeli airstrikes targeting two United Nations-run schools in western Gaza City. Dr. Marwan al-Hams, the director of hospitals at the Gaza Ministry of Health, provided the latest casualty figures to Al Jazeera. The Palestinian Civil Defence reported that 80 percent of those affected in the attacks on the Hassan Salama and al-Nasr schools were children.
Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Deir el-Balah for Al Jazeera, stated that these schools, currently serving as shelters for displaced Palestinians, have suffered significant damage. He noted that the pattern of assaults on evacuation centers is alarming and pointed out that the Israeli military is failing to provide advance warnings to those sheltering within them. Mahmoud emphasized that most shelters in Gaza are schools, as they are among the few spaces capable of accommodating large numbers of displaced individuals.
