The Claim

Lebanese Hezbollah captures and publishes a photo of the Israeli Prime Minister inside his office with a message: "Do not test our capabilities. We intend to keep you in a state of anxiety!"

Emerging story

Recently, social media users have been circulating an image claiming to show a photo captured and published by Lebanese Hezbollah of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sitting at a table with an unseen person. The shot was taken through a half-closed window and appears to be framed by a camera's viewfinder. At the bottom left, it is captioned: "Netanyahu... don't test our capabilities."

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating image and found the claim to be fake.

Benjamin Netanyahu With His Father in Jerusalem in 2009

Misbar's team identified the image as from February 8, 2009, showing Benjamin Netanyahu, then the leader of the right-wing Likud party, in conversation with his father, Ben Zion Netanyahu, at his father's home.

The photo was taken shortly before the Israeli elections in which Benjamin Netanyahu was a candidate for prime minister. The government, led by Netanyahu, head of the right-wing Likud party, was sworn in with a diverse coalition that included members from the left, ultra-Orthodox factions, and the secular extreme right.

The new government, holding 69 of the 120 seats in the Israeli Knesset, marked Netanyahu's return to the prime minister's office following his previous term in the late 1990s. Avigdor Lieberman of the extreme-right Israel Our Home party was appointed foreign minister, while Ehud Barak, leader of the diminished Labor party, retained his role as defense minister.

Hezbollah Launches Drone Attack on Northern Israel Amid Rising Tensions

The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah targeted northern Israel with a drone strike in retaliation for what it described as “attacks and assassinations” by Israel in various villages in southern Lebanon. The Israeli military reported that the assault injured two soldiers and ignited a fire.

This incident has heightened concerns about a potential full-scale war, following the recent assassination of a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in Lebanon and Hamas’ political leader in Iran.

While the Hezbollah strike is part of ongoing border clashes, it does not appear to be a direct reaction to the recent political killings.

According to the Israeli military, fire services are currently working to extinguish a blaze caused by the attack in Ayelet HaShahar, located in the upper Galilee region.
