This Video Shows Celebrations Of MC Alger's Football Club, Not Khelif’s Olympic Gold Medal

Misbar investigated the viral claim and found it to be misleading. The video dates back to August 7, two days before the Algerian boxer Imane Khelif won the boxing gold medal.

MC Alger's Football Club Anniversary Celebrations

Contrary to the claim, the viral video shows supporters of MC Alger's football club celebrating the 103rd anniversary of their team in the capital Algiers, which was on August 7.

The viral video was uploaded on YouTube a day after the anniversary. The title of the video reads: ‘Capital Live: MC Alger's supporters celebrate the club's founding anniversary.’

Imane Khelif won the welterweight gold on Friday, August 9, two days after the celebrations shown in the viral video were held.

MC Alger's Celebrations Caused A Fire In The Test Garden of Hamma

Alarabiya reported that the fireworks celebration of MC Alger’s anniversary caused a fire in the Test Garden of Hamma on Wednesday, August 7, as fireworks were lit along the coast of the capital. 

The Civil Protection Services in Algeria worked on extinguishing the fire in Hamma Garden on the night of Wednesday to Thursday. The fire affected 8 palm trees and other dry trees used for recycling extending over an area of ​​approximately 400 square meters.

Algerian Boxer Imane Khelif Wins The Olympic Gold Medal Amid Online Bullying

After a storm on social media questioning her gender and bullying her, Imane Khelif won the 66kg gold medal against China’s Yang Liu at the Paris Summer Olympics on Friday.

Khelif took the first round unanimously and the other rounds were the same as she continued to apply pressure to her opponent throughout the rounds. The crowd was cheering for her when it was announced that she won the gold medal on points by unanimous decision.

Khelif said that she was badly bullied after social media posts claimed that she was transgender or a biological man. The posts were pushed by the banned International Boxing Association, after defeating Italian boxer Angela Carini in just 46 seconds in a preliminary match. IOC spokesperson Mark Adams defended Khelif after the fight saying that Khelif was “born female, was registered female, lived her life as a female, boxed as a female, has a female passport,” yet, the accusations and the online bullying did not stop.
