Jews were attacked last night on their way to pray at the Western Wall.

Emerging story

Pro-Israel social media users widely circulated a video clip claiming to show Jews being attacked by Palestinian Muslims as they made their way to pray at the Buraq Wall, also known as the Western Wall.

A prominent Israeli journalist and politician shared the video with his hundreds of thousands of followers on X, along with the translated caption, "Jews were attacked last night on their way to pray at the Western Wall."

Misbar's team conducted a thorough investigation of the circulating claim and found that seven settlers had actually attacked Arab worshipers.

A Video Shows Jewish Settlers Attacking Muslim Worshipers

Contrary to the viral claim on social media, the video depicts a group of settlers attacking Muslim worshipers in the Old City of Jerusalem. 

Misbar’s team traced the original video to an X account belonging to the Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Silwan, Palestine. According to the original source, the video shows settlers chasing worshipers who were on their way to perform the dawn prayer on August 13.

“This is how settlers commemorate the so-called "destruction of the Temple"... Chasing worshipers on their way to perform the dawn prayer and assaulting them,” the video’s caption reads.

Police Arrested Seven Jewish Settlers for Attacking a Muslim Couple 

According to Hebrew media, Jerusalem District police officers and Israel Border Police soldiers have arrested seven Jewish youths, primarily from the Mateh Binyamin Regional Council in the West Bank, of violently assaulting a Muslim couple in Jerusalem’s Old City on August 13.

The attack took place while the couple was in the area. Police and Border Police, who were summoned to the scene, intervened to stop the assault and apprehended the seven suspects, aged between 15 and 20. The suspects are currently being questioned, according to The Jerusalem Post.

A senior police official said, "This was an isolated incident that was quickly addressed through the use of surveillance cameras in the area, which helped locate and apprehend those involved. This is the Jerusalem District's standard response to any incident, aiming to prevent escalation and maintain peace."

Israeli Settlers Storm Al-Aqsa Mosque

Israeli crowds have stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem and villages in the occupied West Bank to mark the Tisha B’Av Jewish holiday.

Far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir led thousands into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound on Tuesday, where they performed prayers despite the ban on Jewish religious rites at the site. Israeli police reportedly provided protection to both the participants and illegal settlers involved in violence in the West Bank.

Al-Aqsa, a key symbol of Palestinian national identity and Islam’s third holiest site. Israeli police have also imposed restrictions on Muslim worshipers attempting to access the mosque.

The Palestinian Authority reports that over 624 Palestinians, including 145 children, have been killed in the past 10 months. Thousands have been arrested or displaced due to demolitions and land confiscations.

According to an OCHA report issued on July 12, since October 2023, over 1,000 Israeli settler attacks against Palestinians have been documented. The violence and access restrictions have led to the displacement of approximately 1,390 people, including 660 children, from 29 Bedouin and herding communities.
