Ukraine’s Military Kursk Incursion

On August 6, Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk began aiming to prevent further attacks by Moscow across the border into the Sumy region. Ukrainian President Zelensky stated that the operation aimed to protect communities on the region's borders from constant shelling.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine’s primary task currently is to destroy as much Russian war potential as possible and conduct maximum counteroffensive actions, in order to create a buffer zone.

Ukrainian officials said that Ukraine destroyed a key bridge this week in the region of Kursk and struck another bridge nearby, disrupting supply lines. According to Russia, a third bridge had been struck and damaged on the Sey River that winds through the Kursk region bordering northeastern Ukraine. Ukraine, however, has not yet commented on the strike.

President claimed that Kyiv controls 1,250sq km in the Kursk region as of Monday.

Ukrainian Soldiers In A Hard Battle In Pokrovsk

Although Ukraine’s forces are thrusting into Russia, they are on the defensive as they battle to protect the strategic eastern city of Pokrovsk.

In recent weeks, Russia has steadily advanced in Pokrovsk. Ukraine’s military said that it expects the city of Pokrovsk to remain the focus of Russian attacks.

Ukrainian commanders attribute the situation they face in Pokrovsk to the lack of skills of some new soldiers. According to commanders, some soldiers refuse to fire at their opponents and others struggle to assemble weapons. A few soldiers have reportedly walked from their posts and abandoned the battlefield.
