Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the viral claim and found it to be misleading. The image of the soldier predates the Ukrainian incursion to the region of Kursk.

An Image Of A Ukrainian Solider Taken In Balakliia

Through Google Reverse Image, Misbar’s team found that the image was originally posted in 2022 before Ukraine’s incursion into the Kursk region.

In September 2022, Ukrainian journalist Denys Kazansky posted the image on his Telegram channel along with the caption, “Balakliia is Ukraine!” suggesting that it was originally captured in Balakelya, a city in eastern Ukraine.

The image was posted in 2022 by the Ukrainian journalist Denys Kazanskyi before Ukraine’s incursion into the Kursk region.

Serchii Filimonov is a Ukrainian public figure considered a veteran of the war between Russia and Ukraine, which further confirms that he is a Ukrainian and not a U.S. mercenary.

Ukrainian Soldiers Restore Balakliia In 2022

Two years ago and eight months after the beginning of the Russo-Ukrainian war, Balakliia was the first town to be retaken by the Ukrainian forces. The restoration was seen as an absolute turning point in the war despite the fact that Russians had a greater number of weapons.

Investigators carried out an investigation of the possible war crimes after the restoration. Evidence found in the Balakliia police station suggests that it may have been used to torture people. The chief investigators claimed that one man may have been beaten to death.

According to the chief investigator, 300 people were detained by Russian troops at the police station.

U.S. Mercenaries Allegedly Fighting Alongside Ukraine In The Kursk Region

After Ukraine’s incursion into the Kursk region in Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry claimed that soldiers from private military companies in the U.S. were fighting alongside Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region.

The ministry stressed that these actions contradict statements by the Joe Biden administration about non-involvement in Ukraine’s attack against Russia.

Describing the U.S. as a direct participant in the conflict, the ministry warned that Russian law enforcement will investigate U.S. citizens’ actions and take necessary measures to bring them to justice.
