Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The video is old and does not show the burning of the Star of David in connection with the ongoing Gaza war.

Burning of the Star of David in Stamford Hill in 2014

The video was posted on May 22, 2014, and claims to show the burning of the Star of David in the courtyard of the "Toras Chesed" religious school in the Stamford Hill community in London.

Rabbi Abraham Pinter, a senior leader in the Stamford Hill community, stated that the fire is an old tradition observed on Lag BaOmer, intended to bring light into the world and has spiritual significance.

Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Babad, the head of the religious school, explained that the school follows the Satmar Hasidic sect, the largest anti-Zionist Hasidic group.

The rabbi added that the school typically does not engage in such activities, and only a group of youths was responsible for this incident. He confirmed that if any issues arise, he would consider prohibiting such actions in the future.

Protests Call for Hamas-Israel Deal

The claim is circulating alongside protests in Israel on August 25, 2024, calling for a prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas.

Thousands more demonstrated in Haifa, Caesarea, Herzliya, and various other Israeli towns in response to calls from the families of Israeli prisoners. They urged an immediate agreement on the deal and a swift response to the families' pleas.

Protesters carried signs demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and others indicating that the ongoing negotiations in Cairo represent the last chance for a deal.

The prisoners' families accused Netanyahu in a press conference before the protests of jeopardizing the lives of the prisoners for his political gain.

Representatives of the prisoners' families stated that Netanyahu continues to systematically obstruct the exchange deal for his political interests. They also accused him of deceiving the United States and adopting contrary policies, urging President Joe Biden not to trust him.

The Ongoing Israeli War on Gaza

The war has resulted in the deaths of 40,602 Palestinians and injuries to 93,855 others, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. It has also caused extensive damage to infrastructure and created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.
