A 14-Year-Old Student Shoots at Georgia High School

Four people were killed and eight students and a teacher were wounded in a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on September 4.

The shooter was identified as a 14-year-old student named Colt Gray. Both Gray and his father have been put on trial for the incident.

According to the judge handling the case, the maximum penalty for Gray is life in prison with or without parole, considering his young age. However, his father, Colin Gray, could face up to 180 years in prison.

Colt Gray is slated to be held at the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice until he turns 17, despite his case being moved to the adult system.

The Apalachee High School shooting was the 45th school shooting of 2024 and the deadliest U.S. school shooting since the March 2023 massacre at The Covenant School in Nashville, in which six people died.
