Emerging story
Following the news of the Israeli violent attack on the Scientific Research Center in Syria, a video went viral on X claiming that it depicts the recent Israeli airstrike on Syria.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar’s team investigated the viral claim and found it misleading. The video is outdated and does not depict the airstrike in the Scientific Research Center in Syria.
An Old Israeli Strike On Lebanon
Through reverse image search, Misbar’s team found that the video dates back to a month ago. It shows the Israeli airstrike in Lebanon.
The clip in question was shared by an Israeli account called Mossad Commentary, captioned, “Our forces attacked South Lebanon.”
While the viral video is 7 seconds long, the video shared a month ago is 22 seconds and contains other footage of the strikes in Lebanon. The first 7 seconds of the older video are identical to the clip shared with the claim.
The clip was also shared by the Al Araby news channel on their Facebook on August 9, as it reported on the strikes in the town of Hanaouay in the Tire district of southern Lebanon, wounding 5 people.
The scenes in the viral video are identical to the first 7 seconds of the reported strike in Lebanon a month ago.
Five Killed In An Israeli Airstrike In The Town Of Hanaouay
On August 9, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health declared that 5 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the Hanoiyed town, in southern Lebanon, on August 8.
The strike reportedly targeted an empty house. Five people were slightly injured, two were treated in the emergency section of the hospital, and three were treated in the field.
Israel Kills 25 In Syria In An Extensive Attack
In one of its most violent attacks in Syria since the outbreak of the war on Gaza, Israel killed at least 25 people on Sunday, aiming for a military research center in Masyaf associated with Syria’s chemical and ballistic missiles program.
The attacks were reportedly targeting pro-Iranian militias as well as the “scientific research facility” near Hama, claimed to be run by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.
At the same time, explosions were heard in Damascus, Homs, and Tartus.
Five civilians were killed in the attacks, according to The Syrian Observatory For Human Rights, as well as 4 Assad regime soldiers, 2 members of the Lebanese Hezbollah of Syrian nationality, 11 Syrians working with the Iranian militias, and three unidentified persons. Thirty-two people were injured.
Forces in the area who work in the Scientific Research Center confirmed that the center is unrelated to chemical weapons and the Iranian officers have been present for six years in the framework of developing short- and medium-range precision missiles, and during the current year, the line of developing drones joined it.
