Emerging story
Recently, users on X claimed that Moderna has admitted its mRNA COVID-19 vaccine causes cancer.
Some of the users cited an article published by The Exposé that held the title of the same claim.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral claim and found it to be fake. No records of the claim could be found by any reliable health party.
An Article By A Fake News Website
Misbar’s team did not find any reliable health party sharing the claim or referring to any possibility that mRNA vaccines could cause cancer.
Searching through Moderna’s recent and previous articles, Misbar’s team also did not find anything related to the claim.
The article cited by the users on X is an article from The Expose which is a well-known fake news website.
The Expose is a website that is known for anti-vaccination allegations. It has published dozens of misleading and fake claims about vaccines since the outbreak of COVID-19.
For example, The Expose has previously falsely claimed that double-vaccinated people in Canada have lost 74% of their immune system capability, and the triple-vaccinated have lost 73%. The article even claimed that a large proportion of the double-vaccinated and triple-vaccinated population have developed a novel condition with similar attributes to the AIDS that is called Vaccine Induced Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome, (VAIDS).
When searching for the term “VAIDS,” no records from reliable medical parties could be found. Likewise, several medical professors have debunked these claims and confirmed that “VAIDS” is not a real condition, stating that COVID-19 vaccines do not cause immunodeficiency. On the contrary, vaccines stimulate the activation of immune cells, strengthening the immune system.
A Vaccine Scientist Contributes To Misinformation About The COVID-19 Vaccines
In the article, The Expose referred to Dr. Robert Malone’s appearance at a hearing led by Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. The Expose claimed that Malone revealed how Moderna’s patent shows that its (COVID-19) “vaccine” vials contain billions of DNA fragments and other contaminants linked to birth defects and cancer.
However, this video could not be taken as evidence of the claim that COVID-19 vaccines could cause cancer as it also contains misleading claims. In the video, Malone referred to a short section about RNA vaccines in a Moderna patent application, not the DNA vaccines as Malone claimed.
The concerns mentioned in the patent application are about vaccines using DNA as the main ingredient, not DNA leftovers that may be in other types of vaccines.
His claims were debunked by several fact-checking platforms like FactCheck, Science Feedback, and USA Today.
Dr. Robert Malone is a vaccine scientist who greatly contributed to the conspiracy theories and the misinformation regarding the COVID-19 vaccine. Malone’s claims have been debunked several times by medical professionals and described as dangerous.
