Emerging story
Recently, social media users have circulated a video claiming to show Hezbollah launching a missile at a group of Israeli soldiers.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
Misbar's team found that the video was originally shared in August 2016 by a journalist located in Aleppo showing two units of Assad's forces being hit near the Air Force College by two guided missiles.
A video report from Orient News featured several clips from the region, including the one that has gone viral.
According to the description on the video on YouTube, media offices of the rebels in Aleppo confirmed the death of more than fifty members of the regime forces and Shiite militias from Iraq and Lebanon, following a failed attempt to advance into the Ramouseh area west of the city. Several video clips show large groups of Shiite militias being targeted on the outskirts of Ramouseh with guided missiles. Aerial images also depict mass fleeing operations by regime forces and their militias that attempted to advance towards the Air Force College.
Syrian Opposition Forces Seize Control of Ramousa Neighborhood, Lifting Siege on Eastern Aleppo
On August 6, 2016, Al Arabiya published a report stating that Syrian opposition forces have gained complete control of the Ramousa neighborhood after capturing the last regime stronghold in the area, the Air Technical School. During their aggressive assault on Assad's positions, opposition forces utilized artillery, particularly in their attack on the Air Force College.
The recent six days of fighting concluded with the lifting of the siege on the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo, preventing a looming humanitarian disaster. The most significant advancement occurred in the past few hours when opposition factions, primarily the Fateh al-Sham Army, seized the artillery college, subsequently advancing to the Ramousa roundabout, which reopened the supply route to Aleppo.
Escalation of Cross-Border Attacks Between Hezbollah and Israeli Forces
The circulation of the claim came after Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon and Israeli forces engaged in cross-border attacks, both parties reported early Sunday, following the Lebanese health ministry's announcement of three rescuers killed in an Israeli strike.
Hezbollah stated that it targeted the northern Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona with a barrage of Falaq rockets early Sunday as a response to the "enemy attacks," particularly the strike that resulted in the deaths of emergency workers in the Lebanese village of Froun.
On Saturday, Lebanon's health ministry reported that three emergency responders were killed and two others injured, one critically, due to an Israeli attack on Froun. The ministry indicated that the strike targeted a Lebanese civil defense team extinguishing fires caused by previous Israeli bombardments, while the Israeli military claimed it had "eliminated terrorists" affiliated with the Hezbollah-aligned Amal movement in Froun.
Lebanon's civil defense agency confirmed that three of its personnel were killed in "an Israeli strike that targeted a firefighting vehicle after they had completed their mission." Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the attack, stating that "this new aggression against Lebanon is a blatant violation of international laws... and human values."
Additionally, Hezbollah reported that its fighters had launched rockets at the Israeli community of Shamir, located near Kiryat Shmona. Hezbollah typically claims to target military positions in northern Israel, while Israel asserts that it focuses on Hezbollah infrastructure and fighters in southern and eastern Lebanon. On Sunday morning, the Israeli military announced it had conducted a series of airstrikes on "Hezbollah military structures" and intercepted projectiles fired from Lebanon during the night.
Elderly Man Abducted and Attacked by Israeli Colonists in Hebron
According to a WAFA report on September 8, 2024, an elderly resident of ad-Dhahiriya, located south of Hebron, was abducted and brutally assaulted by extremist Israeli settlers on Sunday. Local reports indicate that Baji Salem Abu Sharakh, a 68-year-old man, was taken while he was tending to his sheep in the al-Tarayan area of the town.
After his abduction, the community quickly mobilized to search for the missing elderly man. However, the Israeli military intervened at the scene and subsequently released him.
Since the beginning of the Israeli war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, violence perpetrated by settlers against Palestinians and their properties has surged significantly. The rampant abuse by Israeli settlers against Palestinian civilians and their property has drawn widespread condemnation. In response, several nations have enacted sanctions against Israeli settlers involved in the violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.
