Netanyahu Vows Severe Response to Houthi Missile Strike on Central Israel
On September 15, 2024, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Israel would impose a "heavy price" on the Iran-aligned Houthis following their unprecedented missile strike on central Israel. The missile, launched by the Houthis who control northern Yemen, marked the first time the group reached this far into Israeli territory.
The attack involved a new hypersonic ballistic missile that traveled 2,040 kilometers (1,270 miles) in just 11 and a half minutes, according to Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea.
An Israeli military official reported that while the missile was intercepted, it was not completely destroyed but fragmented in the air. This incident highlights the escalating tensions and the increasing capabilities of the Houthi forces, prompting Israel to prepare for a substantial response.
