Emerging story

Recently, social media accounts and pages have been circulating a video of Democratic Congressman Dan Goldman recorded less than 24 hours after the second assassination attempt on presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Democrat congressman Dan Goldman: President Trump “is destructive to our democracy . . . and he has to be, he has to be eliminated.”

In the video, Goldman says, "It is just unquestionable at this point that that man cannot see public office again. He is not only unfit, he is destructive to our democracy, and he has to be, he has to be eliminated." This has led to accusations that Goldman incited the killing of Trump before the latest assassination attempt.

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading. The video is outdated and does not originate from a recent interview with Democratic Congressman Dan Goldman.

Democratic Congressman Dan Goldman Calls for Elimination of Donald Trump

The video dates back to November 2023 and features Democratic Congressman Dan Goldman from New York calling for the "elimination" of Trump. He cites a speech by Trump that he described as "dangerous" during an interview with former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

Goldman told Psaki that Trump's rhetoric "has become truly dangerous, more dangerous." He added, "We saw what happened on January 6, when he used his inciting rhetoric, and his latest social media posts are incredibly frightening for anyone trying to work in government. There is no doubt at this point that this man should never hold public office again. He is not only unfit but also destructive to our democracy and must be eliminated."

Dan Goldman Apologizes for Remarks Against Trump

Dan Goldman's remarks sparked controversy at the time, with some social media users interpreting them as potentially inciting violence against the Republican presidential candidate. The Democratic representative later apologized for his comments, stating that he had misspoken when he called for the "elimination" of former President Donald Trump.

In a post on his account on X, Goldman said, "Yesterday on TV, I mistakenly used the wrong word to express the importance for America that Donald Trump doesn’t become President again. While he must be defeated, I certainly wish no harm to him and do not condone political violence."

Trump Survives Second Assassination Attempt

The video resurfaced after U.S. media reported that Donald Trump was the target of what the FBI described as an "apparent assassination attempt" at his private golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, September 15. This incident occurred nine weeks after the Republican presidential candidate survived another assassination attempt. The former president stated that he is safe and in good health.

Sources reported that U.S. Secret Service agents noticed the barrel of an AK-47 rifle protruding from the bushes along the golf course.

Rick Bradshaw, sheriff of Palm Beach County, said one of the agents fired a shot, causing the assailant to drop the rifle and flee in an SUV, leaving behind the firearm, two backpacks, a scope, and a GoPro camera. Law enforcement later apprehended the suspect in a neighboring county.
