Emerging story
Recently, social media users have been circulating a video claiming to show Israeli tanks, previously deployed in Gaza, being transferred to the northern front (Lebanon) to join the 98th Division, which is regarded as the elite division of the occupying army.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be misleading, as the video is old and does not show the transfer of Israeli tanks from Gaza to the northern front.
Israeli Army Transfers Tanks to Gaza Border in 2023
Media outlets released the video on October 9, 2023, stating that it shows Israeli tanks being mobilized to the settlement of Re'im on the border with Gaza, just two days after the launch of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
On October 7, Hamas, along with other Palestinian resistance factions, launched its largest attack on Israel in decades, an operation dubbed Al-Aqsa Flood. This operation included a coordinated aerial, ground, and naval assault, allowing resistance fighters to infiltrate several settlements in the Gaza envelope.
In response to this operation, the Israeli army announced that it was finalizing preparations for a ground incursion into Gaza, aiming to destroy the military capabilities of Hamas and other Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip.
Israel Mobilizes Military Vehicles on Border With Lebanon
The circulation of this claim follows the occupying army's decision to transfer the 98th Division, which includes paratrooper and special forces units, from the southern front to the north as part of increased preparations to confront Hezbollah. This decision comes amid recent escalations between the two sides due to a series of explosions targeting wireless communication devices (pagers and walkie-talkies) used by several Hezbollah members and civilians, resulting in 37 casualties.
Hezbollah Targets Ramat David Base and Airport
In its initial response to the bombing of wireless communication devices, Hezbollah announced it had targeted the military industrial complexes of Rafael, a company specializing in electronic equipment located in the Zofolon area north of Haifa, with dozens of Fadi 1, Fadi 2, and Katyusha rockets.
Hezbollah later announced it also targeted the Ramat David base and airport with dozens of Fadi 1 and Fadi 2 rockets in response to "repeated Israeli assaults on various areas of Lebanon."
