Emerging story
Recently, social media users have been circulating a video claiming to depict the daughter of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah mourning her father after his assassination.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be misleading. The video does not show the daughter of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah after his assassination in an Israeli airstrike in Haret Hreik, a southern suburb of Beirut. Instead, it features the daughter of a Hezbollah member mourning him on his funeral, September 21.
The Video Shows the Funeral of a Hezbollah Member
The video depicts the funeral of a Hezbollah member named Hassan Ali Hussein, known by the nickname 'Abu Sajad,' in the town of Kfar Melki in southern Lebanon, during the recent Israeli aggression against the country.
Misbar found a video of his funeral featuring the same individuals shown in the circulated clip, which was posted on September 22, just five days before the assassination of the Secretary General of Hezbollah.
Additionally, the circulated video displays the name 'Hassan Ali Hussein, Abu Sajad Kfar Melki' written on the shroud, indicating that both videos are from the same funeral.
Hezbollah Mourns Hassan Ali Hussein
On Saturday, September 21, Hezbollah mourned Hassan Ali Hussein in a statement issued by the military media, stating, 'With great pride and honor, the Islamic Resistance honors the martyr, the fighter Hassan Ali Hussein, known as “Abu Sajad,” born in 1975 in Kfar Melki, a town in southern Lebanon, who was martyred on the road to Jerusalem.'
Lebanon Declares Mourning After Nasrallah’s Assassination
The claim circulated following the announcement by Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Saturday that the country would observe three days of official mourning after the Israeli assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
A government memo issued by Mikati stated, "Following the martyrdom of Hezbollah secretary-general Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who joined the caravan of martyrs who fell as a result of the sinful Israeli aggression on Lebanon, official mourning is declared on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday – September 30 and October 1 and 2."
The memo also noted, "During the mourning period, flags will be flown at half-staff across all official departments, public institutions and municipalities. Radio and television programming will be adjusted."
