Pro-Gaza Demonstration in Rabat, 2023
On October 15, 2023, Associated Press photographer Mosaab Elshami published the original video on his Instagram account, stating in the caption that it was from a massive demonstration in Rabat in support of Gaza.
Media reports at the time indicated that tens of thousands of Moroccans protested in Rabat to express their support for Palestine and the Gaza Strip and to condemn the Israeli war on Gaza.
According to the same sources, the demonstration was organized in response to a call from the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization and the National Action Group for Palestine. Its slogan was "The Moroccan people stand with the Al-Aqsa Flood and against normalization," and it began at Bab Al-Had Square in the city center, heading toward the Parliament building.
Thousands of Moroccans Mark the First Anniversary of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood
The claim began circulating alongside a national march that took place Sunday morning in the center of the Moroccan capital, Rabat. Thousands of citizens from various cities in Morocco participated in the march to commemorate the first anniversary of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
According to media reports, participants in the march raised slogans in support of the resistance in Palestine and Lebanon, expressed their rejection of normalization with Israel, and called on Moroccan officials to reverse such actions.
Demonstrators renewed calls to boycott all products that support Israel, displaying images of Palestinian and Lebanese leaders assassinated by the Israeli army, including former Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah. They also raised Palestinian and Lebanese flags and wore Palestinian keffiyehs.
The march was organized in response to a call from the National Action Group for Palestine, which includes the Unity and Reform Movement and the Justice and Development Party, along with representatives from various political parties. Among those who called for the demonstration was the Moroccan Front for Supporting Palestine and Opposing Normalization, which includes leftist groups and the Justice and Spirituality Movement.
Since October 2023, Moroccans have participated in demonstrations and marches in various cities, supporting the Palestinian resistance, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people, condemning Israeli aggression on Gaza, and rejecting normalization.
