Amid the Israeli incursion into Lebanon, social media users have been sharing videos that allegedly depict the Israeli Ground Forces being annihilated by Hezbollah missile strikes.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating videos and found the claim to be misleading.
Archive Footage from October 2016 Shows Jaish al-Izza Halting Assad's Forces in Hama
Misbar's team found that the video originates from October 2016 and was uploaded to the YouTube channel "Almarra Today." It features Jaish al-Izza, a prominent faction of the Free Syrian Army, successfully halting Assad's forces along the Maardis town axis in the northern countryside of Hama, Syria.
A report from Orient News accompanying the video mentions that it displays Jaysh al-Izza, a rebel faction, engaging in combat with Iranian militants supporting Bashar Al Assad's forces in Balad Maardas, Syria. The rebel group also launched assaults on two military tanks and succeeded in capturing several regime fighter units.
Four Soldiers Killed in Drone Strike on Northern Israeli Army Base
The circulation of Hezbollah's claim came after the Israel Forces reported that four soldiers were killed and 58 others injured in a drone strike targeting an army base in northern Israel. The Israel Forces noted that seven soldiers suffered severe injuries in the attack, which occurred at a base "near Binyamina," approximately 20 miles (33 km) south of Haifa.
Hezbollah has declared responsibility for the assault, stating it was aimed at a training camp for the IOF's Golani Brigade located between Tel Aviv and Haifa. The armed group's media office asserted that the strike was a retaliation for Israeli actions in southern Lebanon and Beirut on Thursday, executed through a "swarm of drones."
This incident marks one of the most significant attacks on an Israeli position in over a year. Earlier, the Israeli ambulance service, Magen David Adom (MDA), reported that 61 individuals were injured in the attack, including three critically, with 37 being transported to various regional hospitals by ambulance or helicopter. Prior to the Israel Forces’s confirmation of the casualties, MDA indicated that along with the three in critical condition, 18 victims were categorized as having sustained moderate injuries.
Hamas Leader Yahya Sinwar Killed in Combat with Israeli Forces
Hamas officials have confirmed the death of their leader, Yahya Sinwar, during an encounter with the Israeli military in Gaza. Khalil Hayya, the head of Hamas in the region, described the 62-year-old as "steadfast, brave, and intrepid," stating that he "sacrificed his life for our liberation."
The Israeli forces reported that Sinwar was killed during a sudden firefight in Rafah, southern Gaza. Drone images released by the military captured Sinwar, who was covered in dust, sitting in an armchair with a significant hand injury and his head wrapped in a traditional scarf.
Prime Minister Netanyahu stated that Sinwar's death does not signify the end of the war in Gaza but rather marks "the beginning of the end," as he and President Biden see an opportunity to facilitate the release of hostages. Meanwhile, Israel's offensive in Gaza continues, resulting in at least 28 Palestinian deaths and 160 injuries from an attack on a U.N. school sheltering displaced persons in northern Jabalia.
In addition, two individuals have been killed and nine injured in Yammoune village in the Baalbek region amid Israel's ongoing assault on Lebanon, while the Israeli army has reported the death of five soldiers in the southern part of the country.
