Emerging story

Amid the ongoing Israeli blockade of Gaza, social media users widely spread a video clip purporting to feature Hamas fighters firing at humanitarian planes as they drop aid to civilians in Gaza.

An X user shared the video, along with the caption, "A sad and dangerous scene that news channels ignored to cover up the shame of Palestinians. While Arabs transport planes were dropping humanitarian aid, Hamas members were shooting intentionally of bringing it down."

Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the viral video and found it to be fake.

This two-clip video does not feature Hamas fighters firing at humanitarian planes while delivering aid to Gaza civilians.

This Video Does Not Display Hamas Firing at Humanitarian Airplanes

Contrary to social media trolls, the video does not feature a real incident in which Hamas fighters are firing at planes airdropping aid to Gaza civilians.

A thorough investigation by Misbar found the two-scene video to be fabricated.

The first part of the video dates back to 2022 and was originally uploaded by a TikTok user from Gaza under the username "myuz_gaza1" on August 26, 2022, a year before the war began.

Even the gunfire sounds heard in the viral video appear identical to those in the original TikTok video.

Misbar’s investigative team also found that the second scene in the viral video was originally uploaded by the same TikTok user on June 10, 2024.

Moreover, Misbar’s team compared the two scenes from the viral video and the original footage, finding them to be identical. The buildings, windows, aid planes, parachutes, and solar planes all match between the two scenes.

Moreover, Misbar's investigative team found that the TikTok user "myuz_gaza1" is well-known for sharing fabricated and AI-generated videos, often combining unrelated footage with fake audio.

The TikTok user has about 11.2 million followers and millions of views on his videos. He frequently uses scenes of crowds pointing at something unfounded, followed by the sudden appearance of an angel, tornado, or other unusual phenomena designed to capture attention.

This strategy is primarily used to get views for monetary gain.

Airdropping Is Inefficient for Delivering Aid to Gaza

The ongoing Israeli restrictions on aid entry have depleted essential supplies, leaving Gaza’s population of over 2.2 million at risk of famine, according to a U.N.-backed report. Around 1.84 million Palestinians are experiencing severe food insecurity, as outlined in a recent report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification.

Several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates, have airdropped aid into Gaza. On Saturday, the UAE dropped 81 food packages into Khan Younis, as reported by the Israeli agency overseeing aid flow into Gaza.

According to CNN, 3-year-old Palestinian boy Sami Ayyad was tragically killed on Saturday when air-dropped aid landed in Khan Yunis.

Sami's family was having breakfast when the pallets fell near their displacement area. His grandfather, also named Sami Ayyad, explained that despite attempts to seek shelter in improvised tents, the boy was killed instantly by the falling package. Sami’s aunt and cousin were injured in the incident.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly criticized airdrops as an inefficient method of delivering aid to Palestinians in Gaza, urging Israel to lift restrictions on land crossings to allow better access to critical supplies.

Israel Escalates Gaza Strikes

At least 17 Palestinians, including an 11-month-old baby, were killed and 32 others injured in an Israeli attack on a school serving as a shelter in Gaza’s Al-Nuseirat camp.

According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, over 770 Palestinians have been killed and around 1,000 have been wounded as the Israeli military assault on Jabalia and the siege of northern Gaza enters twenty days. In addition, thousands of Palestinian civilians are forced to displace as Israeli airstrikes escalate in northern Gaza.

Since the Israeli barbaric war on Gaza began on October 7, 2023, the total number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks has reached at least 42,847, with 100,544 reported injuries.
