Misbar’s Analysis

Misbar investigated the viral footage and found the claim to be misleading.

After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the video making the rounds to be unrelated to the recent truck-ramming operation in Israel.

2017 Video Shows Al-Quds Ramming Operation

Contrary to social media users' viral claim, the video is neither recent nor related to the latest truck-ramming operation in Israel

Misbar’s investigative team traced the original footage back to January 8, 2017, depicting Al-Quds ramming operation.

Ma'an News Agency uploaded the video to Facebook with a translated caption reading, “Video of the moment of the car-ramming attack in Jabal Mukaber, south of occupied Jerusalem. Martyrdom of the perpetrator - 4 dead and 15 soldiers injured.”

The incident occurred at the Armon HaNetziv (East Talpiot) promenade in East al-Quds when a large truck veered off-road, hitting a group of soldiers who had just gotten off a bus.

Israeli police spokesperson Luba Simari confirmed the deaths of four soldiers and injuries to 18 others.

Following the incident, Israeli media reported that the truck driver had been shot dead. Palestinian sources later identified him as Fadi Qanbar, a former prisoner and resident of Jerusalem’s Old City.

The incident occurred as a bus was dropping off passengers, with a preliminary police investigation indicating that the truck struck both the bus and those nearby.

Eyewitnesses reportedly shot at the driver, who was subsequently killed, according to Israeli police.

A 72-year-old man later succumbed to his injuries at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, as confirmed by the hospital to NBC News.

Hamas claimed responsibility, describing the act as a “natural response” to Israel's actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.
