Emerging story
Recently, social media users have been circulating a video claiming to show Hezbollah attacking a petrochemical facility located to the south of Haifa.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
Misbar's team found that the video dates back to last September, depicting a massive explosion at the Yemen port after multiple attacks by the Israeli Air Force.
As reported by Reuters, Israel announced on Sunday that it conducted airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen and intensified strikes in Lebanon, escalating its conflict with Iran's allies after the killing of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
The attacks on the Yemeni port city of Hodeidah were described by Israel as retaliation for recent Houthi missile assaults on its territory. The situation raises concerns that the fighting in the Middle East could escalate and involve Iran and the United States, Israel's primary ally. The Yemeni health ministry reported that at least four individuals were killed and 29 were injured in the strikes.
Israeli Parliament Enacts Ban on UNRWA Amidst Escalating Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
The Israeli parliament has approved two contentious bills that prohibit the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from operating within Israel and areas it controls. Passed on Monday, this legislation threatens to disrupt the already fragile aid distribution system at a time when the humanitarian situation in Gaza is deteriorating, putting added pressure on Israel to permit aid deliveries. The ban will be implemented in 90 days, leading to the closure of UNRWA facilities in the occupied Palestinian territories—including the West Bank and Gaza—harming the agency's ability to carry out its responsibilities as established by the U.N. General Assembly in 1949.
UNRWA has been the primary provider of humanitarian assistance in Gaza, which has suffered extensively due to over a year of war in Gaza. The situation has become increasingly perilous for UNRWA staff, with many killed in Israeli airstrikes, marking this war as one of the deadliest for U.N. personnel.
The first law prohibits UNRWA from engaging in any activities or offering services within Israel, passing with a vote of 92-10 after heated discussions among supporters and critics, particularly from Arab parliamentary members. The second law classifies UNRWA as a “terror” group, forbidding Israeli officials from any interaction with the agency, and it passed with a vote of 87-9.
Israeli Air Strikes Target Tyre, Lebanon Amid Evacuation Warnings
Following an evacuation alert from the Israeli military, consecutive air strikes have struck the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre, as reported by Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency. Local media and the Lebanese Civil Defense captured images of thick smoke billowing over the skyline, accompanied by fires and extensive damage to residential buildings. In response to the evacuation warning, civil defense teams moved through the city using loudspeakers to advise residents to evacuate immediately. The NNA reported multiple air strikes on the historic coastal city, starting with an attack on a residential apartment building.
An AFP journalist noted dense smoke enveloping parts of Tyre, including a plume rising from a seaside building. The Israeli military had earlier instructed residents in certain areas of central Tyre to leave promptly, indicating plans to target Hezbollah positions in the vicinity.
Military spokesman Avichay Adraee stated on X that “Hezbollah’s activities compel the [Israeli military] to respond forcefully,” and he called for residents to “head north.” An accompanying map indicated significant portions of the city marked in red, including regions near a UNESCO World Heritage site.
