Emerging story
Upon the latest clashes between pro-Israelis and pro-Palestinians in Amsterdam, a video of a pro-Palestine protest emerged on X claiming that the protest took place recently just after the latest tensions in Amsterdam.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral claim and found it to be misleading.
This Protest in Amsterdam Dates Back to May 2024
Through a reverse Google image search, Misbar’s team found that the video dates back to May 2024 and has no relation to the latest events in Amsterdam.
The assistant professor at Radboud University published the video on May 7, 2024, along with the caption, “And now we take over the streets of Amsterdam. We will not be defeated.”
Misbar geolocated the street where the protest took place and found it happened on Weesperstraat Street in Amsterdam, where pro-Palestine protests were witnessed in May.
It could be noted how the street shown in the viral video and the Weesperstraat Street are identical.
According to NL Times, the news outlet from the Netherlands, Weesperstraat Street in Amsterdam has witnessed pro-Palestine protests and violent clashes between protesters and police.
Riot police used shields to keep demonstrators at a distance on Weesperstraat until the demonstrators switched their direction.
Furthermore, Misbar’s team found no record of any pro-Palestine protest happening recently on Weesperstraat Street.
