Emerging story
Amid the ongoing Israeli war on Lebanon, social media users widely shared a video clip claiming to show Lebanese tanks advancing in preparation for a possible attack on Israel.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral video and found the claim to be misleading.
After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the circulating footage to be unrelated to the recent Israeli war on Lebanon.
Video Shows Algerian Military Parade, Unrelated to Lebanon War
Contrary to social media users’ viral claim, the video is not related to Israel's ongoing war on Lebanon.
In the clip, the crowd chants “Tahia Algeria,” meaning “Long live Algeria.”
Misbar investigated the claim and found it featured an Algerian military parade marking the 70th anniversary of Algeria's national liberation war.
In addition, social media users posted additional clips showing similar scenes, with parade attendees waving Algerian flags and cheering for the army.
An Instagram user also shared a video featuring the same tanks seen in the viral clip, shot in the same location, with Algerian flags displayed along the roads and viewers cheering for the army.
Algerian Army Military Parade to Mark the 70th Liberation Anniversary
On November 1, 2024, the President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, inaugurated a military parade near Djamaâ El Djazaïr in Algiers.
This parade, organized by the National People’s Army (ANP), marked the 70th anniversary of the start of Algeria’s National Liberation War on November 1, 1954.
Following the national anthem, President Tebboune addressed the crowd, congratulating the Algerian people on this historic occasion and welcoming the international guests who joined to celebrate the anniversary.
The event featured an air parade over the Bay of Algiers, with military transport planes, reconnaissance planes, fighter jets, bombers, and helicopters for combat, reconnaissance, transport, and search-and-rescue helicopters.
The land, sea, and air forces joined the spectacle alongside the Republican Guard, National Gendarmerie, ANP schools, National Security, Civil Protection, and Algerian Customs.
Israel Intensifies Barbaric Attacks on Lebanon
On October 1, 2024, Israel escalated its attacks on Lebanon by invading southern Lebanon. This escalation came after a series of major Israeli strikes on Hezbollah in September, beginning with explosions of Hezbollah communication devices and killing many of its leadership.
On Wednesday, Israeli airstrikes in the Baalbek and Bekaa governorates killed at least 40 people, as reported by Lebanon’s health ministry.
Israel issued new evacuation warnings to four neighborhoods in southern Beirut, with one strike hitting near Lebanon’s only commercial airport, which remains operational.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah fired missiles from Lebanon, killing an Israeli man near a kibbutz in northern Israel, according to paramedics.
According to Al Jazeera, Israeli attacks in Lebanon have killed at least 3,117 people and injured 13,888 since October 7.
