Emerging story
A photo showing 15 female Israeli soldiers emerged recently on X claiming that all of them were killed in Lebanon.
An X user shared the photo captioning it, “All killed in Lebanon.”
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral claim and found it to be misleading. All the female soldiers in the photo were killed in Nahal Oz, not in Lebanon.
Female Israeli Soldiers Killed or Abducted at Nahal Oz on October 7
Misbar’s team searched for the names of the Israeli soldiers in the list and traced information published about them from official Israeli websites, finding that 14 of the soldiers were killed in Nahal Oz on October 7. One soldier, however, was abducted and later killed.
The list included Aviv Hajj, Noam Abramovich, Shai Ashram, Hadar Cohen, Noa Price, Shaf Nissani, Yam Amr, Shir Eilat, Yael Leibushor, Mia Vialovo Polo, Roni Eshel, Shira Shohat, Adi Landman, Shiral Mor, and finally Noa Marciano who was abducted from Nahal Oz and killed in captivity.
A search of their names on the Israeli military website confirms they were killed on October 7, except for Noa Marciano.
Furthermore, through reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the photo published on the Israeli outlet Yedioth Ahronoth in an article titled, “Here was the hell of our girls' | Back to the Nahal Oz outpost with the parents of the fallen observers.”
The Hebrew outlet captioned the photo: “The observers from Nahal Oz who fell in Nahal Oz on October 7, and Noa Marciano who was murdered in captivity,” confirming and aligning with Misbar’s findings.
Controversial Accounts About The Killing of Israeli Soldier Noa Marciano
In November 2023, the Israeli army announced the killing of the Israeli soldier Noa Marciano who was captured by Hamas on October 7’s Al-Aqsa Flood operation.
A day before the IOF’s announcement, Al Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, released a video of her directing a message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asking him to stop the bombardment as it threatened their lives. She was later announced dead due to Israeli airstrikes on November 9.
According to Marciano’s parents, their daughter was killed by a doctor in Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, not by Israeli airstrikes. They believed that she was being treated for her injuries caused by Israeli airstrikes, but a doctor deliberately killed her.
Marciano’s parents' claim raises questions as to why would Hamas transfer an injured Israeli to Al-Shifa for treatment if they ultimately wanted to kill her—especially at a time when Al-Shifa, the main and the largest hospital in the Strip, was needed most due to the constant heavy bombardment on Gaza and high death toll.
Different accounts from previous Israeli prisoners in Gaza discredit Marciano’s parents' claim.
After Marciano's murder, AP interviewed several Israelis released by Hamas. Munder, one of the released said that they were given chicken and rice to eat and all sorts of canned food and cheese. “We were OK,” she described their state.
However, as conditions in Gaza worsened, they had to endure deteriorating conditions such as famine and the lack of essential materials as all the Palestinians in Gaza had until now.
Noa Argamani was also one of the released Israelis who talked out about her experience in captivity in Gaza. Argamani, who had been reported by Israeli and Western media as being beaten and having her hair cut by Hamas, said that she was not beaten nor had her hair cut. Instead, she was in a building that was bombed by the Israeli Air Force and had injuries all over her body after a building collapsed on her.
