Emerging story
Amid recent Israeli attacks in the southern Lebanese town of Khiam, social media users spread two photos claiming to show the exchange of attacks between IOF and Hezbollah.
An X user shared the two photos, along with the claim: “Footage from the fierce battles that took place in Al-#Khiam, South #Lebanon overnight.”
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating photos and found the claim to be misleading.
After conducting a thorough reverse image search, Misbar’s team found the photos to be outdated and unrelated to recent attacks on Lebanon.
Photos Show the Aftermath of Israeli Airstrikes on Gaza, Not Lebanon
Misbar's team found the two photos to be older than claimed. The first circulating photo dates back to November 12, 2023, during the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza.
Misbar found the photo uploaded to Getty Images, and it features “Projectiles land as a flare fired by Israeli forces falls at a position near Israel's southern border in the northern Gaza Strip.”
Media outlets began featuring the photo in their articles. Sputnik, for example, included it in a piece about the ceasefire talks in November 2023.
Photographer Fadel Senna shot the photo for the AFP Agency.
The second photo is also outdated. Misbar’s investigative team traced its origin to April 2023, months before the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza.
The New Arab featured the photo in an article covering the April 2023 Israeli attack on Gaza.
The Jerusalem Post also published the original photo, saying it depicts Israeli airstrikes on Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip.
Photographer Ashraf Amra captured the photo for Reuters on April 7, 2023.
In April 2023, Israel’s military said it conducted strikes in Beit Hanoun and Khan Yunis. The Gaza Health Ministry stated that a children's hospital sustained damage and caused distress among young patients.
Recent Israel-Hezbollah Clashes in Khiam Town, Lebanon
According to media sources, Hezbollah fighters and the Israeli occupying forces clashed fiercely on Saturday in the southern Lebanese town of Khiam and the coastal Bayada area.
According to the NNA, Israel wanted to control the Khiam town, describing it as “a strategic gateway for a rapid ground incursion.”
Alaraibya outlet cited NNA, saying that Israeli occupying forces dynamited houses and attempted to encircle Khiam using extensive air and ground cover.
Hezbollah claimed its fighters launched around 20 attacks on the Israeli military in and around the town recently.
The NNA said that Israeli occupying forces tried to penetrate the area to encircle Naqura via Bayada, a strategic coastal point between Naqura and Tyre, located 20 kilometers from the border.
The NNA previously reported that Israeli tanks reached the outskirts of Khiam in their deepest incursion into southern Lebanon.

According to Lebanese officials, a massive recent Israeli airstrike on central Beirut killed at least 15 people.
The strike destroyed an eight-story residential building in the densely populated Basta district. The Lebanese Health Ministry reported over 60 injuries and said that the death toll could increase as they conduct DNA tests on recovered body parts.
Lebanese authorities stated that the ongoing Israeli war in Lebanon claimed more than 3,500 lives and displaced over one million people across the country.
