Emerging story
As fierce battles rage between Hezbollah and the Israeli military recently, social media users widely shared a photo claiming to show Hezbollah fighters capturing Israeli soldiers during the Lebanon invasion.
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the viral photo and found the claim to be misleading.
A thorough reverse image search found the photo to be outdated and unrelated to the recent Hezbollah-Israel ground battles.
Old Photo Shows Al-Qassam Military Exercise in Gaza
Contrary to social media users’ viral claim, the photo has nothing to do with the recent clashes between Hezbollah and the Israeli Occupation Forces in Southern Lebanon.
Misbar’s investigative team traced the photo back to an article published by Shehab News Agency, which identified it as depicting an Al-Qassam Brigades military drill simulating the capture of Israeli soldiers in Gaza.
Shehab News Agency uploaded the photo on April 1, 2023, a few months before the Israeli war on Gaza began.
Marsd News also featured the same photo on April 1, 2023.
Both news outlets reported on a radio episode titled “Jabeen Al-Majd,” broadcast by Al-Aqsa Radio in collaboration with the military media of the Al-Qassam Brigades.
The episode unveiled new details about an attempt to capture Israeli soldiers during the 2014 Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Israel Intensifies Ground Attacks on Lebanon
According to Lebanon's National News Agency, the ground attack escalation came as the Israeli military attempted to encircle Naqoura and establish positions in Bayda.
This position considers a strategic location overlooking the coastline between Tyre and Naqoura, situated approximately 8 km from the border.
Ground clashes along the southern border have escalated in recent days, despite ongoing U.S.-brokered peace efforts reportedly progressing in a positive atmosphere.
Israel emphasized that any ceasefire negotiations with Lebanon will continue “under fire.”
On September 23, Israel escalated the month-long border attack with a major air campaign against Lebanon, followed by a ground invasion a week later.
Hezbollah’s Recent Barrage of Rockets Toward Israel
Hezbollah announced it targeted the Ashdod naval base in southern Israel “for the first time” and launched an operation against a “military target” in Tel Aviv using advanced missiles and strike drones.
The Israeli military confirmed air raid sirens sounding in central and northern areas, including Tel Aviv suburbs.
It reported intercepting several projectiles fired toward northern Israel and stated that 250 projectiles had been launched from Lebanon. Later, the Israeli military radio updated the figure to 340 missiles.
According to medical agencies, the attacks injured at least 11 people, with one man reported in “moderate to serious” condition.
This barrage of rockets follows an Israeli airstrike in central Beirut a day earlier, which killed at least 29 people and wounded 66, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the strike as a “direct, bloody message rejecting all efforts and ongoing contacts” to end the Israeli war on Lebanon.
The ongoing Israeli war on Lebanon has killed over 3,500 people in Lebanon and displaced approximately 1.2 million, according to the ministry.
