Explosion in Rishon Lezion, October 2023
Hebrew media outlets published the image on October 8, 2023, showing an explosion in Rishon Lezion, south of Tel Aviv, after rockets fired by the Palestinian resistance from Gaza struck following the Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
Hezbollah Fires Rockets at Israel
The image began circulating after the Israeli military announced on Tuesday that the Air Force intercepted rockets fired from Lebanon toward Israeli territory, triggering sirens in the Haifa Bay area. Hezbollah had claimed responsibility for shelling the city of Nahariya and Israeli military positions, as well as targeting two camps in the occupied Golan Heights.
In a statement, Hezbollah said it conducted 25 military operations on Tuesday to "counter Israeli advances at the Lebanese-Palestinian border, intercept enemy drones and fighter jets, and target Israeli military sites, bases, deployments, and settlements in northern and deep inside occupied Palestine."
The group also released footage of its attack on the Israeli military’s Haifa naval base using Fajr-3 and Fadi-1 rockets.
Ceasefire Between Lebanon and Israel
The claim began circulating as the ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel took effect early Wednesday morning. U.S. President Joe Biden announced the agreement’s implementation on Tuesday evening.
In recent hours, thousands of residents from cities and villages in southern Lebanon, which had been shelled by the Israeli military, began returning to their homes. The Lebanese army urged citizens to delay their return to villages in southern border areas and wait for the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, Israel announced a ban on traveling to villages it had previously instructed residents to evacuate, advising citizens to await further instructions on their return. On Tuesday evening, Biden stated that Israel and Lebanon had agreed to the ceasefire, emphasizing that the goal was a permanent halt to hostilities, with no U.S. forces stationed in southern Lebanon.
