Emerging story
Recently, social media users have been circulating a claim attributed to al-Golani, the head of the Syrian Military Operations Command and leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. The claim quotes him saying: 'I will work on a law allowing Syrians to move and work in Israel, with which we will sign a peace and cooperation agreement in the coming weeks. There will be trade and industrial exchanges, as well as cooperation at the highest levels.'
Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating claim and found it to be fake. The statement attributed to Ahmad al-Sharaa, head of the Syrian Military Operations Command, about drafting a law to allow Syrians to move and work in Israel and signing a peace and cooperation agreement with Israel, was fabricated. It was neither made by the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham nor published by the official accounts of the Military Operations Command.
Al-Sharaa Condemns Israeli Assaults on Syria
In his latest statements about Israel, Ahmad al-Sharaa condemned the incursions by Israeli forces into southern Syria after the opposition ousted former regime leader Bashar Assad.
Speaking to the media Saturday, al-Sharaa said, "The Israelis have clearly crossed the lines of engagement in Syria, creating an unjustified threat of escalation in the region." He urged the international community to intervene and stop Israel's recent airstrikes on Syria.
Al-Sharaa clarified that they have no intention of engaging in conflict with Israel, emphasizing that "diplomatic solutions are the only path to ensuring security and stability while avoiding reckless military actions." He also dismissed Israel's claims that 95% of its bombings target legitimate Syrian sites, calling them baseless.
Al-Sharaa Meets With U.N. Envoy in Syria
On Sunday, Ahmad al-Sharaa met with U.N. Special Envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen in Damascus. During the meeting, they discussed the need to reconsider U.N. Security Council Resolution 2254 due to the changes in the political landscape, according to the official account of the Syrian Military Operations Command.
Al-Sharaa emphasized the importance of swift and effective cooperation to address issues facing Syrians, stressing the need to focus on Syria's territorial integrity, reconstruction, and economic development.
He also highlighted the necessity of careful and precise handling during the transition phases and the rehabilitation of institutions to build a strong, effective system. Additionally, he underscored the importance of creating a safe environment for the return of refugees and providing economic and political support. He pointed out that these steps must be carried out with great care, precision, and under the supervision of specialized teams to ensure the best possible outcomes.
