Old Photo Shows Aftermath of Israeli Airstrike on Gaza

Contrary to social media users’ viral claim, the photo is unrelated to recent American-British airstrikes in Yemen.

Misbar’s team traced the photo to August 8, 2018, when photographer Mahmud Hums captured it in Gaza. The photo caption indicates that it shows the aftermath of an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.

In August 2018, the Israeli military launched extensive airstrikes, firing more than 150 missiles across Gaza. The Israeli hostilities killed five Palestinians and injured over 50. The strikes also damaged six water facilities serving over 30,000 people, dozens of houses, and several vehicles.

Recent U.S. Airstrike on Yemen

On December 16, the U.S. military confirmed conducting an airstrike on Monday targeting a Houthi-operated command and control facility in Yemen.

According to U.S. Central Command on X, the facility served as a hub for coordinating Houthi operations, including attacks on U.S. Navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Al-Masirah TV, the primary news outlet of Yemen's Houthi movement, reported on Tuesday that the strike hit the al-Ardi complex in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a.

Yemen’s Houthis Claimed Hypersonic Missile Attack on Israel

On December 16, Yemen’s Houthi group claimed responsibility for a hypersonic missile attack targeting central Israel, pledging to continue military operations until Israel ends its war on Gaza.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced in a televised address that the operation on Monday involved a hypersonic ballistic missile named “Palestine 2.” The Houthis described the attack as a response to ongoing Israel’s massacres in Gaza, which killed more than 45,000 people.

The Israeli military confirmed intercepting a missile launched from Yemeni territory before it entered Israel.

Despite Israel’s claims, the Houthis asserted that the operation “successfully achieved its objectives,” though they did not provide further details.
