Misbar’s Analysis
Misbar investigated the circulating video and found the claim to be misleading.
A thorough reverse image search found the footage making the rounds to be from China, not the U.S.
Old Video Shows Drones Spray Chemicals in China, Not America
Contrary to social media trolls' claim, the video is neither recent nor filmed in America.
Misbar’s investigative team traced the original video, uploaded to YouTube in November 2022, titled “Drones Spray Chemicals Against COVID in China.”
The video’s caption states it was shot during the 2022 COVID-19 pandemic, showing drones launched at night in China to spray chemicals and disinfect the streets amid the coronavirus outbreak.
In addition, Misbar’s team found the same video uploaded to a website called “Dronexl” in early December 2022.
According to the report, mysterious agricultural drones spray chemicals in a Chinese city at night, likely using disinfectants to combat the latest COVID-19 outbreak.
The use of agricultural drones for street sanitization is not new. The concept of deploying drones with sprinkler systems to disinfect entire streets emerged during the early days of the pandemic.
Mysterious Drones Flying Over Several U.S. States
U.S. aviation authorities imposed a temporary ban on drone use in nearly two dozen New Jersey cities until mid-January.
The mystery continues to grow after nearly a month of drone sightings over New Jersey and other U.S. states, alarming some residents.
Authorities did not provide definitive answers, stating only that they do not believe the flying objects pose a threat to public safety or national security.
On Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed that the sightings included drones, along with manned aircraft often mistaken for drones. He added that he knew of “no foreign involvement” related to the unmanned aerial vehicles.
The drone reports fueled a range of baseless conspiracy theories, including claims that the drones are searching for nuclear weapons, radioactive “dirty bombs,” or are part of an impending alien invasion, according to THE BBC.
U.S. President Joe Biden stated that there is “nothing nefarious” about the drone sightings and assured the public there is “no sense of danger.”
