German Police Beating Up Pro-Palestinian Protesters
The video was first posted online on November 5, 2024, by the X account of the U.K.-based press monitoring organization Middle East Monitor. According to the post, the video shows 'German police violently attack pro-Palestine women.'
The video was also shared by Al Jazeera’s TikTok account and shows protesters holding what appears to be a Palestinian flag, often seen at demonstrations.
However, the original video was posted on November 4 at 6:49 p.m. by the X account 'walid021079,' who describes themselves as a 'journalist' in their account bio.
Pro-Palestinian Protests in Berlin, November 2024
On November 2, in Berlin, as reported by German media outlet Die Welt and the local newspaper Berliner Zeitung, a pro-Palestinian demonstration took place, and clashes erupted between protesters and the police. There is no record of a similar demonstration being organized in Berlin on November 4.
In any case, the video shared on X dates back to early November and is unrelated to protests concerning the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, which was ousted on December 8 by rebellious groups led by the political and paramilitary organization Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
Protests in Germany Following the Fall of the Assad Regime
Following the fall of the Assad regime, people from the Syrian diaspora across Europe took to the streets to celebrate the end of the Assad family's repressive rule, which lasted more than 50 years.
In Berlin, on December 8, more than 5,000 Syrians gathered in a square in the Kreuzberg district, as confirmed by local police. Hundreds of German police officers were deployed to manage the protest, where people celebrated and waved the flags of opposition groups in Syria.
Although some incidents occurred, and Die Welt reported the arrest of one person, no significant clashes took place between police officers and protesters.
