Misbar investigated the claim and found it to be fake. The images are AI-generated.
Fake Scenes of Hollywood Sign on Fire Circulate Online
Contrary to social media users, the circulating images and videos are not genuine.
Misbar’s team traced the source of the first circulating video on TikTok and confirmed it was generated using AI software.
The TikToker’s account specializes in sharing videos generated with artificial intelligence. The account’s bio reveals that the page shares artistic and graphic video scenes. Also, the user shared several AI-generated videos depicting fake hurricanes.
Furthermore, Misbar’s investigative team discovered that the second circulating image is also AI-generated.
A close examination revealed that it was created using X's Grok AI, with the watermark visible in the lower-right corner of the image.
Also, no credible news outlets reported the iconic Hollywood sign catching fire during the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
As Fires Reach Hollywood Hills, Iconic Sign Could Be at Risk
Wildfires continued to spread across California on Thursday morning, threatening landmarks and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate.
As of Thursday morning, the Hollywood Sign on Mount Lee remained outside evacuation zones and faced no immediate threat from the wildfires, according to USA Today.
BBC reported that the Sunset Fire caused chaos in the Hollywood Hills, home to the iconic Hollywood Sign. Mandatory evacuations on Wednesday evening triggered severe traffic disruptions on Hollywood Boulevard, compounding challenges for residents.
Los Angeles Wildfires Kill Five as Firefighters Combat Blazes
Fast-moving wildfires claimed at least five lives in the Los Angeles area as thousands of firefighters worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames.
The Palisades fire burned over 17,200 acres, the Eaton fire scorched 10,600 acres, and the Sunset fire consumed 60 acres in Hollywood. None of the three fires have reached containment.
The fires destroyed an estimated 2,000 buildings and forced 130,000 residents to evacuate, including more than 60,000 in Pacific Palisades. Power outages disrupted service for over 330,000 residents, according to PowerOutage.us.
On Thursday, California Governor Gavin Newsom deployed over 7,500 firefighting personnel and nearly 1,200 fire trucks to Southern California to tackle the crisis.
